Trinidad
(and Tobago) are the most southerly of the Caribbean islands, with Trinidad lying just 7 miles off the coast of
Venezuela. Tobago is 21 miles away to the northeast of Trinidad. In fact, locals will proudly tell you that you can see
Venezuela from the North West of Trinidad. Trinidad is a major commercial center and is the most
industrialized of the Caribbean societies.
While Trinidad prides itself on
offering excitement, Tobago is synonymous with tranquility. If you
visit Tobago AFTER Trinidad, which is likely, you'll have a hard time
believing the two islands comprise the same country! With its many deserted beaches, in particular the one at Store
Bay near the Crown Point airport, and an endless supply of calm, clear water, Tobago begs to be
enjoyed.
There is a championship golf course
where you can play a relaxing 18 holes and still occasionally find some
shade from the nearby palm trees. Recreation in
Tobago centers around the sea. The many inlets, bays and reefs are perfect for
swimming & snorkeling. The Buccoo Reef, which can be visited by hopping
aboard one of the many available glass-bottomed boat tours, is NOT to be missed!
Clubs
on BOTH islands vibrate with the beat of Trinidadian music, as well as
regional music, such as Jamaican dancehall, until the early hours.
Trinidadians though, have tastes for all music, so U.S. music has a huge
following as well. Trinidadians and Tobagonians like to party or "fete" (French for celebrate) as
it is known locally, not unlike most people of the Caribbean region.
The biggest 'fete' of them all is an annual cultural celebration known as
Carnival, which usually occurs in February or March.
We could tell you more, but it's so much easier to show you
