I am so very proud of you. I admire your grace and dignity especially under scrutiny. There is so much more in life for you. Running was just the beginning, a gateway if you will, and I believe that you will use it wisely. May God continue to bless and keep you.

You have made a great contribution in placing T& T on the world map. Ato, I guess the big question is are you still hungry for the big time or not, I know that you have achieved so much, but you are only 30, dont look back when you are 34 and then decide maybe I should have given it one last try. Linford Christie also wanted to call it quits in 1991 after finishing 4th in the world champs. He gave it one final try the next year and then he bacame an Olympic Champ and a world Champ and he nearly equalled the world record. Think hard and give it one last shot, and remember, its not the triumph but the struggle, its not to have conquered but to have fought well.

From: Thanasis of Greece
Date: 8/30/2004 3:51:00 PM      (62.74.67.141)
As a Greek I feel both proud of the almost perfect organization of these Games and ashamed of that Kenteris issue. I am not that stupid to believe this "motorcycle accident" tale. I just want to say to everybody, not to blame the greek people for what they did at the 200m final. You must know that the people here is misinformed by the local media and that explains partly these actions. Many people in the stadium refused to call Kenteris' name and even more Greeks who were not in the stadium that day felt bad of what happened. One thing I can assure you about, is that we never wanted stolen medals, never!! Ato and everybody don't blame the people please. It was so nice that we hosted you here, I hope you felt at home.
Ato to me and to many other Greeks you are a marvelous athlete, you have lots of fans here who love you as well as pure and clear competition. I wish you the best now that you will be away from the lanes, we will miss you.

Sorry to hear your hanging up your adidas! Ato what do you say to a skeptic like myself re: drugs in sprinting, with Gatlin saying immediately after his win "he would die for his sport", the greek girl 400 hurdler (unheard of last year)blitzing it, Marian J struggling to stay with the pack in her events etc; Am i missing the picture, is the promise of fame and fortune too much to pass up nowadays. For what it's worth iv'e always felt you were clean, you appear far too bright to be that stupid.
Thx mate.

Ato, as I Trinidadian living in Barbados, I am very proud of your achievements. I admire and respect your decision to bid farewell to competitive racing but I am sure you will continue to motivate and inspire many people. Loved your farewell speech specially where you gave thanks to your critics - few people know how to handle criticism positively, you obviously used it as a motivator.
Good luck and I am convinced you will continue to do great things whichever path you choose.

I feel so proud and lucky to have seen you in Athens' Olympic Games last Sunday the 22nd. I got the tikets for the Athletics just to see You and Maurice, and I was sooo lucky even to get a wonderful photo with you. I was impressed by your smile and your attitude, how kind and simple you are, how you let all the fans approach you. You are a great athlete and I'm really sad you're retiring but in life we always have to move forward. All the best for the future. We'll miss you, stay in touch!

Hi Ato! I've learnt that you plan to retire from track and field which is bad news for all your fans.
But I understand that as a human being you eventually would reach your limitations.
Your pesence in particular in European meetings will be truly missed. I don't have to tell you that you are now a household name in Europe. You've been a great ambassador for your country.
I also hope that you will stay in touch with us via your web site.
Thanks for having transmitted your passion for this sport. Michelle>

HONESTLY I WAS DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE OF YOUR ABSENT AT THE 100 METERS FINAL OF 2004 OLIMPICS. I MISSED YOUR TECHNIQUE AND FIRE POWER. MY SON IS ONLY SEVEN YEARS OLD HE LOVES YOU AND BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE STILL THE BEST.

My lastr post was taken off. So i'll say agin without seeming...rude! Ato was not the same Ato that we have knon for a while now. I mean the guy that can run 9.9 and 20.0 in his sleep! If he had that kind of speed now he would be up there with the rest of them. But times ALWAYS beats us and now time and to some extent wear and tear and age have beaten ato. he can be proud of what he has done. The stats speak for themselves. this Olympics has seen a new order one in which Ato was in 1995 and 1996 until now. Gatlin Crawford are credible runners. But seeing how Ato has run this season, his non-qualification into teh major rounds of teh 100m did not surprise me aswel as him not qualifying for 200 event!

Enjoy your retorement Ato. You have done good
