For me the greatest race ever was 2004 olympics - 4 sprinters ran a sub 9.9...woooow
But if you mean the 200m in atlanta, you're completely right...

Ato:

I might agree with that. When u run 9.8 and get no medal that is a race!

In reply to Ato: sorry I misunderstood what you said. You are 100% correct about the UK. It is very frustrating because there is so much talent over here and I myself know that Brits do train as hard as anyone. I definitely think something needs to be done because if the talent over here was harnessed correctly by the stupid arses at UKathletics, then there is no reason why we couldn't challenge the US. All this talk about underachieving Brits has just made me even more determined.

i would like to congratulate you on the fine performance you have done to this country for the past years. You have shown us as young people we can achieve anything with disclipline, hard work and committment. Ato my suggestion to you is to take up a job in coaching our young runners of this nation especially our present relay team who narrowly missed gold. If the baton exchange in the last hand over was clean i know we would of gotten gold in a longest of margin however congrats to the French team on a fine performance.

Hi Ato,

Just read your True Story post for July. I'm sorry you feel that way. I hope you do not mean that you have hardened your heart to Trinidad as a country, and us as a people because of what a few idiots, who obviously have nothing to do, have had to say about you.

The majority of TT were always behind you, even when you weren't winning anymore. Do not take the words of a few disgruntled sportswriters and journalists as the thoughts of a nation.

Whilst the older heads might be stuck in their ways, the younger generation can, and will make a change to improve our country. Now if only certain people will just leave the political arena, maybe someone with a brain and long-term ideas, who actually cares can get a chance.

Why not you?

Ato:

It has nothing to do with what people say or don't say. That has been a part of my life since I was 18, I am used to it. I am much more concerned with where is the outrage, the activism. Complacency is something I can't process!

Hi Ato,

You have the same coach as Inger Miller
you ever fail any doping tests
it is harder to get away in a doping test today then when you were active, is that gonna make times harder to achieve

Ato:

I did, in 2001 for ephedrine - no longer banned. Inger Miller and I had the same coach we are both retired now. People are running fast, and I belive cleanly, like Asafa Powell so I dont think doping is what makes you faster or not.

Hi Ato,

I'm just a bit younger than you, and I remember when you first started running for TT. I don't think I ever got so excited on behalf of a trini athlete. Not Lara, not Yorke.

First let me say thank you for not bowing to pressure, and sticking to running for the land of your birth. So many caribbean athletes of outstanding quality are so quick to represent their adopted country.

You accomplished so much more for your country, and the next generation by running for the red, white & black.

No matter what people say about the ego thing, and the showing off, your heart remained pure. Your dedication unwavered. And positive light you continue to shine on TT youths, and young athletes in general, is a God send.

Thank you.

Coe i think you are being slightly harsh on Ato, just read his blog about Asafa. But Ato, that comment about UK sprinters isn't very fair. We work and train just as hard as anyone (well I know I do at least)

Ato:

Coe is entitled to his opinion. The current UK sprinters, given the support they receive, are the biggest underachievers in the world. That is just a fact that even Brits know. It doesn't mean they don't work hard. It means they don't get it done.

Hi Ato
I have watched all the world championships in helsinki on tv, and it was amazing, i'm wondering something maybe you could help me about the relay. The american technic for the baton ( also used by Trinidad and Tobago) seems to be less efficient, most of the team disqualified used this technic. Why don't you change to take the other technic which seems to be more efficient?
By the way, i wanted to tell you that your website is very good,it's the best athlete site i have ever seen.
I remember in paris 2003, i was working as a volonteer, and i took your clothes during your race lol, just after the Jon drummond race when you waited like 30 minutes...( do you have news from him...is he ok...?)
bye
Chloé
PS: I hope you understand my english is not perfect

Ato:

It is not any less or more safe. It is just used by fewer people, so it appears that way. Plus, France actually practices all year, so it's not the baton technique its the practice....the US has the last 5 WRs using "the other" technique so it's not bad.

After reading your true story for July and its ring of truth is undeniable. Having conceded that fact, even with all its problems there is no place like home and I will forever consider myself a Trinidadian living in the USA.
Don't ever hold you tongue, speak your mind because evil triumphs when good men do nothing and jus maybe some day the powers that be will finally listen.

Since i was 14 years old I am a fan. now i am 21. At first I could not believe it, there is so much to do and see here, yet, I was gob smacked when i realised that you actually interacted with us (rookies) on a daily basis.
The Ask Ato section on this site is the best! I mean, I have asked you lots of questions over the last 8 months, and U have answered them all! Thank U! The reason i am so grateful is because the coaches were I live all have different veiws on training etc.. and i never get a clear answer, but with U , well, i am getting a response from one of the best 100/200m sprinters ever! and the best Caribbean sprinter EVER! bar none! The tips and tricks U have gave me, through email/Lets Rap etc..have helped me so much. just to list a few...endurance tips/supplement tips/weights tips/rest tips...U name it! U are doing a great as a ambassador for track and field and for your country T&T. This is the best sprint web site ever! and U Ato Boldon are a GOD SEND.

You should be a politician Ato, they way you can turn the stats to your advantage. Always making sure you come out on top. Fact is you'd be eating dust behind Asafa Powell. You forgot that it is not the number of races, it is only the fastest time that counts. Asafa Powell has 4 times run faster than you ever did, and watch this space as he will erase you to oblivion over the next 10-12 years

Ato:

A Brit talking sprints! NOW! LOL. Figure out why no UK sprinters have done anything in 13 years. I have given Asafa his props on this site, so I fail to see your point. My stats don't need to be "turned" and nothing Asafa does "erases" what I did.
